1932년과 1933년 Kahl[2]의 최초 보고 이후에 다수의 연구에서 출현이 보고되었으나 체섬모열의 상세한 구조가 밝혀지지 않았으며, Li et al.(2016)[3]에 생시료의 형태적 유사성을 근거로 종의 형태학적 재기재와 유전자 계통 분석이 실시되었다. 최초 원기재의 기재가 상세하지 않으나, Choi et al(2018)[2]에서는 기 보고된 문헌과 비교하여 추가 극모가 존재하는 등 형태의 차이가 있음을 보고하였다.

살아있는 세포의 길이는 110-130μm×35-45μm이고, 길다란 직사각형-타원형의 몸을 가진다. 2개의 대핵이 있다. 2개의 큰 반지 구조물과 소수의 작은 반지 구조물이 존재한다. 등쪽에 불규칙하고 길게 배열되어 있는 노란색 피층과립의 길이는 0.8μm, 너비는 0.6μm이다. 34-40개의 입주변섬모와 3개의 전방극모, 1개의 구극모와 아구극모, 2개의 추가 극모, 3개의 전방복극모, 25-31개의 중앙복극모, 27-36개의 좌측극모, 27-44개의 우측극모를 가지며, 5개의 횡극모, 2개의 전방횡복극모와 7개의 등쪽섬모열을 가진다.

염분 30‰ 내외, 수온 18℃내외에서 연안, 조수웅덩이 등에서 보고되었다. 우리나라에서는 우리나라 백도 주변 조간대에서 출현하였다[2].
