We have evaluated the antimicrobial effect of each solvent fractions extracted from T. tetragoniodes, which were extracted by methanol (MeOH) and then partitioned with hexane (HX) followed by dichloromethane (DCM), ethylacetate (EA) and butanol (BuOH), in progression. The antibacterial activity was determined by the agar-well diffusion method and expressed as the average diameter of bacterial growth inhibition zone around the wells. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the active fractions was also determined using a microplate dilution assay against various pathogenic bacteria. The DCM and EA fractions were found active against Listeria monocytogenes, Micrococcus luteus, Bacillus cereus, Klebsiella pneuminiae, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris and Shigella sonnei. The fractions showed relatively high antibacterial activity against most of the tested bacteria with the diameter of inhibition zones ranging between 9.0 mm and 15.4 mm. The MIC values for active fractions ranged between 15.63μg/ml and 1,000μg/ml.
