Humans are usually infected by the consumption of contaminated seawater or seafood. V. alginolyticus infection in humans is mainly associated with infections of the skin and ears, such as acute otitis media and cellulitis. In this study, the distribution of V. alginolyticus along the coast of Jeju Island, and its relationship with water temperature, salinity, DO, and pH was investigated. The antibiotic susceptibility of the bacteria isolated was also tested. In seawater, the Daejeong area had the highest detection rate, with 13 cases (21.7%), and the Hallim area showed the lowest detection rate, with eight cases (13.3%) in. In shellfish, the Daejeong area had the highest rate, with seven cases (23.3%), and the Seongsan and Hallim areas had the lowest detection rate, with four cases (13.3%). The overall detection rate was the highest in Daejeong area, with 20 cases (22.2%), and the lowest in the Hallim area, with 12 cases (13.3%). The detection rate was highest when the water temperature was highest. 최원선,문채윤,허문수 한국해양바이오학회 상세보기 제주 연안에 서식하는 Vibrio alginolyticus 분포 Vibrio species are Gram-negative basophils that are ubiquitous in seawater, increasing in number as the water temperature increases. National efforts have been made to produce useful cases of application by using the troublesome S. horneri. As a part of that, a CNDs-ZnO nanocomposite with antibacterial and antifungal properties was synthesized through a simple hydrothermal reaction using S. horneri, and the results were verified in this paper. The antibacterial and antifungal activities were mainly determined by the disk diffusion test against five bacterial and fungal strains, respectively. Of note, the inhibitory effect of the CNDs-ZnO on the growth of both Gram-positive (Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus) and Gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, and Vibrio alginolyticus) bacteria was highly effective. Moreover, the nanocomposite showed low toxicity compared to chlorine bleach. In addition, the CNDs-ZnO showed antifungal activities against both yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Rhodotorula mucilaginosa) and mold (Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, and Aspergillus terreus). This work showed the potential usability in antimicrobial application based on poor marine brown alga considered as useless in Korea. Through this paper, it seems that sufficient utility and possibility can be expected upon various unappreciated and uninterested marine species.

A strain of Vibrio diabolicus named SX-2018 was isolated from Callista chinensis in the Zhejiang coastal region of China. The isolate was identified as V. diabolicus by sequencing of the 16S rRNA, housekeeping genes and subclade-associated genes. Antibiotic resistance as well as biochemical and growth characteristics were determined. Animal studies were performed to evaluate the in vivo virulence of SX-2018. The results indicated that SX-2018 was highly related to the known deep-sea hydrothermal vent V. diabolicus and V. diabolicus from Homo sapiens. Artificial infection showed that SX-2018 exhibited strong pathogenicity toward Gomphina aequilatera, but it did not express pathogenicity toward Mactra veneriformis Reeve, Callista chinensis, Mactra chinensis Philippi, Ruditapes philippinarum, Cyclina sinensis, Dosinia corrugate Meretrix meretrix, Tegillarca granosa, Sinonovacula constricta or Danio rerio. Mortality in Gomphina aequilatera at 25 °C and 15 °C was 100% and 27%, respectively. Virulence-related gene sequence analysis showed that SX-2018 encoded the tlh gene but lacked tdh and trh genes. Tlh and hemolysin coregulated protein genes of SX-2018 shared 99.36?99.79% homology to the deep-sea V. diabolicus strain, 98.65.36?99.79% homology to the V. diabolicus strain from Homo sapiens, and 97?97.79% and 84?89.79% similarity to Vibrio alginolyticus and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, respectively. This study will aid in understanding the evolutionary relationship between V. diabolicus and related pathogenic Vibrio species.
